Motorsport is tough on batteries. On an e race car, we don’t want to carry any more battery than it takes to complete the race, and when we cross the finish line we want to have used nearly all of the available electrons. We are taking these batteries from a fully charged condition to a state of near complete discharge in only a few minutes. This puts significant stress on the battery cells. The last thing we need is a charger that puts more stress on them. After a lot of experimentation with multiple prototypes, we have the solution.
Our PERFECT BALANCE LFP FAST CHARGER is designed to manage the charging of high performance LFP batteries. This is an active balancing charger that takes each cell to within .005 Volt of nominal 3.65V at the end of charge. Typically, after voltage settling, they will still be within ~.005 Volts of each other. This is an order of magnitude better than any of the passive balancing schemes commonly used in a BMS.
Inside each PERFECT BALANCE charger there are individual DC power supplies, one for each “channel”. The pictured 10S Kart battery charger has 10 channels, and the cover is off to show this. Each channel has a Perfect Charge control board running our proprietary software. After running a diagnostic of the battery, the board continuously monitors the charge process until each cell pack is fully charged, then the charge is terminated. There is never a danger of over-charging your battery and all of your packs will be “balanced”, in other words they will all be at the same state of charge. There is an LED indicator light for each channel which displays it’s status. This is expensive to produce, but the payback will be in battery life and performance.
